About Me

Exploring the Art of Alternative Processes in Outdoor Photography

Based in Portland, Oregon, I find inspiration in the diverse landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. The great outdoors is more than just a setting—it’s the canvas upon which I seek my inner equilibrium.”

Driven by an innate curiosity, I am on a perpetual quest to capture and recreate the profound beauty that unfolds before me. This journey merges artistic expression with historical and modern photographic techniques, allowing me to explore the nuances of both.

In a world where change is the only constant, I've come to appreciate the ephemeral nature of these moments, recognizing how they can alter perspectives forever. This awareness fuels my passion—a relentless drive to observe, experience, immortalize, and craft my visual narratives.

Beyond the digital frontier, I have rekindled my passion for film, delving deep into the expansive world of large format photography. My artistic journey now spans digital, traditional black & white and color films, and alternative processes, including paper negatives (Ilford Multigrade V RC Deluxe Glossy Surface Black & White Photo Paper, 190gsm), Silver Gelatin Dry Plates (Zebra), Dry Plate Tintypes (Zebra), and the revived art of instant film. I am now also researching and formulating my own alternative photographic processes, pushing the boundaries of historical techniques to discover new creative possibilities.

For my alternative process work, I personally handle every stage of development, ensuring that each step aligns with my artistic vision and grants me complete creative control over the final image. After development, I transition the work into the digital space through high-resolution scans, where I refine each image using Photoshop and Lightroom workflows, enhancing details while staying true to the essence of the medium and my artistic intent.

My artistic philosophy is rooted in exploring the intrinsic qualities of my subjects while embracing the unique characteristics and creative limitations of each photographic medium. Through alternative processes, I strive to highlight the uncharted possibilities these methods hold, revealing the textures, tonal depth, and unpredictable beauty that make each image truly one of a kind.

A Bit About My Journey

My interest in photography and the outdoors began in my early teenage years shooting 35mm color and slide film. In 2000, I started shooting with digital cameras (Canon series) with my son but soon realized that I was taking too many pictures without truly experiencing the moment. In 2021, to both slow down and become more intentional with my work, I transitioned back to film photography, starting with a 4x5 large format camera.

From there, my curiosity led me to explore paper negatives, glass negatives, and tintypes, alongside traditional black & white and color films. Today, I primarily shoot with Ektar 100 and Ilford HP5, carefully selecting each medium based on the story I want to tell.
